Burger v Salads which is cheaper?

This is question that often arises when it comes to the subject of food costs, you can walk done any High St and buy a large burger for a couple of pounds, but if you decided that a nice fruit or vegetable salad, the cost spirals out of control. It is no wonder that when it comes to making a choice between the two, many people are going for the tasty burger.

Have we ever wondered why this is so? The simple fact is that it all boils down to government subsidies. It would seem that meat production is hugely expensive, takes up space and resources and yet when compared to the humble vegetable there is no comparison.

Vegetable growers get hardly any government help, while meat producers will receive the majority of the government cash in order to bring to the market good cheap meat. But just because it is cheap does not mean that it has to be bought and eaten. Maybe cost should not be factor at all, it would be better to eat what you want in moderation.
