World food crisis looming
There was time when food shortages were limited to under developed countries, yet today there could be a worldwide food crisis as prices keep on rising. The main factors are the weather, the global economy, oil prices, low food reserves and the increased demands from Asia. These have all added to the growing problem.
Of course the worst suffering is still from those who live in the poorest countries, but there are protests nearer home like those Italy over the price of pasta, Egypt over bread, and even Japan has seen the protesters on the street.
There is another factor that is causing great concern, and it is the growing of crops for Bio Fuels, there are many farmers who are giving up growing crops for food, in favour of the more lucrative Bio Fuel market which is expanding very fast.
The age of cheap and available food could be coming to end for us all.
