Microsoft fears the rise of open source

If there is just one thing that the top execs at Microsoft fear it’s the threat from the success of all of the open source projects that are springing up all over the net. That is according to Ray Ozzie, Microsoft’s Chief Architect, who was speaking at a conference in New York.

Most people would have thought that it was Google who threatened the software giant the most, but with organisations like the Open Office project expanding all of the time and even being adopted by many government departments and organisations because of the licensing issues that surround Microsoft products.

But at the end of the day Google still has to be the biggest threat Microsoft, simply because they are so desperate to get into the internet advertising through search.
