Coffee no go for pregnant mums

Coffee should be off the shopping list for pregnant mums as recent research has revealed that it could increase the possibility of their babies developing cancer.

It is the caffeine in the coffee that causes the problem. As it is thought that caffeine can damage the babies DNA while it is still in the womb. This could make the baby more susceptible to leukaemia, which is most common in younger children.

In to find out if there is an actual link between this, researchers at Leicester University will be carefully going over the data that they have compiled which tracks the women who have drank coffee and then compare this with blood samples taken from babies.

The food standards agency recently reduced their recommended daily intake of caffeine for pregnant mums to just two mugs of coffee per day.
