Tesco Jails to be opened in shopping centres

Retailers have the backing of the police with the call for short term prisons; these have been nicknamed “Tesco Jails” for some reason. However shoplifting did reach £767 million just in England and Wales last year. So it is understandable why there is a call for some drastic actions.

Anyone arrested, would have his or her DNA taken and placed on the national database, as well as being fined, cautioned or some other action taken against the shoplifter. But is this not giving the police powers that would make them judge, jury and executioner?

There are also calls that similar “Mobile” units be made available for sports and other events.
